“Mini 30x30 Challenge | A students' wave for the ocean”

07/04/2025

We are delighted to inform you a global initiative “Mini 30×30 Challenge | A students' wave for the ocean”, coordinated by Oceanário de Lisboa and Oceano Azul Foundation.

It aims for a global mobilisation of students aged 4 to 18 in many countries to defend the importance of achieving the United Nations' goal of protecting 30% of the oceans by 2030 (30×30 global target) through the creation of Marine Protected Areas.

Students will learn, vote on what they think is most important and subscribe an Open Letter to the United Nations (UN), which will be delivered to the UN during the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) in Nice in June.

The initiative's website, Mini 30×30 , is available in four different languages: English, Portuguese, French and Spanish.

It includes a number of educational resources that can be used by teachers and students (animated video, presentation on the UN Ocean Conference and the importance of marine protected areas, teacher's guide with suggestions for practical activities, etc.).

Webinars for teachers are planned to explain the initiative in four different languages. Below are the links to register:
